What else can the MEP do to help ensure migratory students graduate?
Migrant Tutorial Program
In this program, certified teachers are hired by the MEPMigrant Education Program to provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring services to migratory students. Tutoring may occur as a supplemental pull-out program during the school day, or as a supplemental service after the school day ends, either on campus or at the student’s home.
What documentation needs to be maintained?
- MEPMigrant Education Program staff must maintain documentation that PFS students were given priority for this supplemental tutoring service.

MEPMigrant Education Program staff must be able to determine the effectiveness of the tutoring support. Effectiveness may be determined using both qualitative and quantitative
measures, such as:
- - Content-based pre- and post-assessments, administered before services begin and end, for the subject in which the student is receiving support
- - Benchmark assessment data, provided by the classroom teacher, for the subject in which the student is receiving support
- - Pre- and post-surveys, completed by students, parents, and/or teachers
- MEPMigrant Education Program tutors must maintain and submit documentation of the services they provide to migratory students.
Migrant Lab
MEPMigrant Education Program staff work with campus administrators to use an available classroom or conference room on campus as a Migrant Lab. This room is staffed by certified teachers or Highly Qualified paraprofessionals who can support various content areas. MEPMigrant Education Program staff work with administrators to develop a process for students to receive supplemental support from the Migrant Lab.
- When a migratory secondary student enters school late or withdraws early, the migrant teacher, migrant counselor, migrant strategist and/or academic counselor will assess the student and determine whether he/she is placed in the Migrant Lab to complete missed work.
- The student receives support from the migrant teacher and/or other appropriate MEPMigrant Education Program staff in order to earn the credits needed to ensure on-time graduation.
- All migratory students have access to the Migrant Lab to receive assistance with coursework, homework, projects, STAARState of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness remediation, scholarship searches and applications, college applications, and any other need which may arise.
